Robotics are essential to space operations and some of the most well-known are the robotic arms that have offered a helping “hand” to missions onboard Space Shuttles and the International Space Station (ISS). Today, the ISS has a number of robotic elements, including Canadarm2 and the European Robotic Arm. These structures perform station maintenance, move supplies and equipment, and perform “cosmic catches” of unmanned resupply vehicles, helping to safely dock them to the orbiting station.
