Mindfulness in the Galleries @ the Noguchi

Join us on first Saturday mornings this summer for meditation and mindfulness in the galleries before the Museum opens to the public. This limited series is led in partnership with Mindful Astoria and offers a pause to bring us back to ourselves. Each session includes guided meditation and an extended conversation with one work of art. You do not need to have any prior experience with mindfulness or meditation to attend, and all materials will be provided.

In New Information, Cain Coleman (of the Dragon Sisters) takes the audience on a journey of self-exploration and the relentless pursuit of artistic expression. An immersive environment pulls the audience into an unforgettable evening, featuring original music, live instrumentation, performance art, and captivating visual art. Building off Coleman’s roots in Brooklyn’s queer nightlife scene, New Information combines the artistry of a concert or theater performance with the energy and community of a vibrant dance party.

Open Call Exhibition: GARRETT ZUERCHER@ The Shed

Launched as part of The Shed’s inaugural-year program, Open Call is a large-scale commissioning program for early-career, NYC-based artists.

Garrett Zuercher’s Inside/Look opens an empathetic window onto the diversity of Deaf identity and the unique challenges Deaf artists face. The narrative performance compares and contrasts the experiences of individual Deaf theater artists whom Zuercher has interviewed since November 2022, including artists with a range of experiences across nationality, sexuality, religion, other disabilities, and more. From the video recordings of these conversations, Zuercher edited a single video that serves as a visual script for a live stage performance featuring the original interviewees.

Dad Rock is a monologue that falls apart because of poetry.

Produced and performed by Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre (YSDT, Palestine/NYC) and directed/choreographed by Samar Haddad King with text and additional original music by King, each Gathering is a singular event that calls you to join as participant or witness in the collective action. The cast features seven international YSDT performers—from Japan, Palestine, Taiwan, Turkey, the UK, and the US—and six local artists.

West Side Fest @ The Shed

Join The Shed and our neighbors in the West Side Cultural Network for the first West Side Fest, a day of free admission, special indoor and outdoor programming, crafts for kids, artmaking for all ages, and more.

The festival wraps up with a block party at The Shed from 3 to 7 pm, featuring dance sets by The Dragon Sisters and Ladies of Hip-Hop, as well as ongoing DJ sets by Riobamba, BEARCAT, and Ashley Venom.

Raised in Queens, New York, Sudanese-born mOma is the embodiment of the versatile New York DJ and music producer. His sets consist of an agile blend of hip hop, dancehall, Afrobeats, soca, amapiano, baile funk, soul, R&B, disco, house, international sounds, and underground dance grooves all mixed with an equal share of classic jams, rare gems, and modern-day dance floor hits.

Summer Sway: Nuevayorkinos @ The Shed

Nuevayorkinos is a digital archive, multimedia project, and party series dedicated to preserving ÑYC Latino and Caribbean culture and history through family photographs, videos, and stories. Established in February 2019, Nuevayorkinos accepts submissions from Latino and Caribbean New Yorkers, taken in the five boroughs before 2010.
